Women’s Reservation Bill: This Is How Women Leaders, Entrepreneurs & Change Makers Reacted
Parliament has passed the historic Women’s Reservation Bill, which provides 33% reservation for women in Lok Sabha and State Assemblies, thereby providing one of the biggest push for gender equality and women empowerment across India. Except for two, all MPs supported this bill, providing an overwhelming majority and support, seldom seen in India.
Although there are some controversial elements in the bill, that needs more debate and modifications in the future, but the passage of this bill is historical, and impactful, and will empower women across India to come forward, and participate in nation-building with full vigor and enthusiasm.
We asked women entrepreneurs and leaders, change makers about this development, and recorded their reactions.
Here are the highlights:
Kiran Mazumdar Shaw – Chairperson & Founder of Biocon Limited
“I think this is an important event. I do hope that we get unanimous passage of the bill in the Lok Sabha becasue I think this is the reservation bill that was long long needed, long long overdue. And in the times we live in – when we talk about women’s empowerment, gender inclusivity and various other aspects of gender equity – women’s reservation bill is long needed and much needed. I welcome it”

The Women’s Reservation Bill in India is a monumental leap towards gender equality and inclusive governance. It’s a resounding declaration that women’s voices MATTER! Women must be actively involved in shaping the nation’s future. As we break down these barriers, we embrace a future of wholesome collective wisdom regardless of gender, contributing to more informed and equitable decision-making.
By ensuring that women occupy at least one-third of seats in the legislative bodies, the bill paves the way for a more representative and enriched democracy. It empowers women to be decision-makers and role models inspiring future generations.
A society’s progress is intrinsically linked to the inclusion and empowerment of all its members. The Women’s Reservation Bill doesn’t just benefit women; it enriches the entire nation. It fosters diversity of thought, enhancing policymaking and strengthens the foundation of a more equitable society. It’s not just a bill; it’s a powerful stride forward towards an egalitarian India.
